Senior Vice President - Professional Liability
Velma Lane has specialized in Professional Liability Insurance and Risk Management for Architects and Engineers since 1978. Her dedication to understanding the unique risks faced by these professionals and her many years of working with specialty insurers, provides her the ability to offer valuable counsel in determining the appropriate insurance products required to meet their needs.
As Director of the Professional Liability and Environmental Practice Group, Velma has established partnerships with some 800 architectural and engineering firms in Colorado. In addition to her individual accomplishments, she has developed a highly specialized team dedicated to meeting the unique underwriting, loss prevention and risk management needs of architects, engineers and environmental consultants. As a valuable business partner, Velma and her team provide practice management improvement assistance through bulletins, newsletters, contract review for insurability, in-house seminars and one-on-one consultation for the overall management/transfer of business risks.
Velma is a past President of The Professional Liability Agents Network (PLAN), an organization of over 50 firms in the U.S. and Canada. Through PLAN she can assemble a team of experts to address client’s needs which may be specific to a particular territory, state or province.
Velma is a frequent speaker, locally and nationally, for professional societies including: American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), American Institute of Architects (AIA), Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) and Certified Consulting Engineers Council (CCEC).
She is a well-known figure in the professional environment and has been the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions:
- Special Recognition Award in 1990 for outstanding service to the consulting engineering profession and ACEC Colorado.
- ACEC Colorado President’s Award in 2004 for exemplary service and recognition of the many years of consistent involvement and efforts to support business practice and risk management issues on behalf of ACEC Colorado.
